Ball Mill MM 500 Nano

Ball Mill MM 500 Nano

The MM 500 Nano is the first ball mill in the world that can efficiently grind samples material into nano-sized particles. This milling machine is compact, versatile and a bench-top device that has been developed for dry, wet and cryogenic grinding of sample materials within second. It is a powerful mill that mixes and pulverises powders and suspensions efficiently and quickly to a nano-metre range. This pulverizer is unique as it can provide a real alternative to grinding in the classic planetary ball mill and is very interesting for research and mechanochemistry.

Ball Mill MM 500 Nano

Benefits:

- Grinding of up to 35 Hz

- Suited for rapid pulverisation <2 min and long-grinding of up to 99 hours

- 3 different grinding modes to choose from

- Can use one large grinding ball or small grinding balls depending on the mode

- Easy and comfortable clamping and handling of grinding jars

- Touchscreen interface makes it easy for parameter settings

- Memory for 12 SOPs and 4 program cycles

- Can be controlled through the Retsch App

- New jar design for optimised usage of jar volume

- Final fineness of <100 nm

- Suitable for applications like mechanical alloys and mechanochemistry

Grind Sizes within the Nano-Metre Range:

The new grind sizes in the nano-metre range are due to the new jars designed to optimise usage of jar volume. The Mixing Machine MM 500 Nano reaches a fineness of < 100 nm due to the maximised energy input of 35 Hz and as there are less warming effects, the grinding can be done without breaks for cooling down. The below diagram displays the Nano grinding of titanium oxide without cooling breaks and shows a particle size of 90 nm was achieved after 120 minutes of grinding:

New Grinding Jar Design:

The new jar design was made beneficial for wet grinding and pulverising fibrous samples like hair. It was given a flat lid to allow for optimised usage of jar volume and for wet grinding. The grinding jars are available in a range of materials such as hardened steel, stainless steel, tungsten carbide and zirconium oxide to ensure that sample preparation is contamination-free. The grinding jars used by the Ball Mill MM 500 Nano can perform radical oscillations in a horizontal position and the inertia of the grinding balls causes them to impact with high energy on sample materials.

Sample Materials:

The homogenisation of many different samples materials can be achieved in this pulverizer. The various sample materials include alloys, animal feed, bones, ceramics, chemical products, coal, drugs, glass, grains, hair, minerals, plant materials, tissue, waste samples and many more.
