YSI has teamed up with the Australian government and other regulatory and industry bodies to monitor the water quality of The Great Barrier Reef.

This partnership comes as Part of the Paddock to Reef Integrated Monitoring, Modelling and Reporting Program (Paddock to Reef program), a collaboration involving Australian governments, industry bodies, regional natural resource management bodies, landholders and research organisations.

According to the article, “with the recent impact of climate change on the Great Barrier Reef and the recent coral bleaching, it's now more important than ever to bring more people to the table to improve the resilience on the reef.”

By monitoring the waterways, an assessment can be made about their condition: how dirty the water is, the sediment that's in the water, pesticides concentrations, etc.

The YSI team has spent some time with the local farmers to teach them how to sample the water quality and how to record all the metadata and the information about the sample.

With the Paddocks to Reef program the company and farmers are trying to improve water quality in the reef, ensuring its resilience for future generations.
