On Wednesday, April 9th, 2025,  Lab Unlimited hosted a dynamic technical workshop with AMETEK Brookfield, designed to bring professionals together for a truly hands-on experience in material characterisation and performance testing. The event brought together professionals from the dairy, pharmaceutical, and scientific manufacturing sectors for an engaging, practical experience with the latest Brookfield equipment in material characterisation and performance testing.

This wasn't your typical workshop — it was an interactive session that gave participants the rare opportunity to bring their own materials, perform live testing, and receive guidance directly from Lab Unlimited and Brookfield experts. Guests were also supported on the day by our highly experienced Field Service Manager, who provided tailored technical advice and support, adding an extra layer of practical value to the experience.

A Day of Engagement and Innovation

Attendees had the opportunity to bring their own samples, conduct real-time testing, and explore the functionality of five core Brookfield products:

• Viscometer
• RSX Rheometers
• Texture Analyser
• DVNext Rheometer
• Powder Flow Tester

A highlight from the day included the testing of a particularly complex dairy sample, where participants worked with Brookfield experts to assess and troubleshoot textural inconsistencies. This live demo sparked an open group discussion, providing insight into how different equipment can be applied across specific industry needs — from viscosity in creams to powder flow in pharmaceutical granules.

In addition to product demos, the workshop included a networking lunch and sessions on best practices, workflow optimisation, and method fine-tuning — all led by Arthur Lam, AMETEK Brookfield Sales Engineer.

Expert Insights from the Seminar

The workshop was led by Arthur Lam, UK & Ireland Regional Sales Manager for Brookfield, who brought his extensive experience working with Brookfield instruments to the day. In his introduction, A explained that events like this are invaluable because they give attendees a chance to get hands-on with a wide range of Brookfield instruments, while also speaking directly with experts and networking with others facing similar challenges in their industries.

One of the key best practices Arthur shared was the importance of a well-written test method. He encouraged attendees to remember that Brookfield is always ready to provide support, whether for method development, equipment queries, or troubleshooting, and to never hesitate to reach out for guidance.

What excites him most about demonstrating Brookfield equipment, he said, is the application-focused nature of each session. Every customer brings unique challenges, and being part of the process to find tailored solutions is both rewarding and informative. This was reflected during the workshop itself, where live testing and open discussion provided insight into how Brookfield instruments can be applied across very different sample types and industries.

Arthur also highlighted the advantages of Brookfield equipment compared to other manufacturers. As he explained, Brookfield has been the industry standard for viscosity measurement for decades, with instruments trusted across countless applications. Beyond the technology itself, when companies invest in Brookfield, they gain access to decades of accumulated application expertise, seamless integration into existing test methods, and a comprehensive range of instruments covering everything from viscosity and rheology to texture and powder flow.

What Participants Shared About Their Experience

Brian Murray, R&D Manager at Arrabawn Co-Operative Society Limited, came to the workshop to explore the latest developments in Brookfield viscometers and revisit equipment he had previously worked with, such as the texture analyser, rheometer, and powder flow tester.
